This has to be my favorite taskbar based plugin. It makes it so easy to use mpd. Its presentation is also very nice. With the Artist and song showing, and then the icons showing, on hover over.

Is there a way to have play and pause merged into one? My main usage of the buttons is to click play, lock the screen and wander off, when i return and unlock the screen it would be nice to just jab the mouse button again to unpause it (I'm greedy, I know) it would also save some taskbar real-estate :-) I'm also a huge fan of the on-mouse-over controls, brilliant!

To merge the play and pause buttons, you just have to edit the edje theme. Its relatively easy and just a matter of emitting the right signal.
If you do not know edje, may be you can enlist some help from the E community.

I've set up a keybinding for play/pause functionality through mpc so it's not so important now, but I'll try to play with the theme just to see if I can do it :-)
My current problem is that mpdule fails to load with evas_stringshare_add being undefined by the module and it's dependent libraries, I'm sure it'll get fixed soon (sounds like evas have changed some of their symbols around a little)...

My bad, mpdule hadn't been upgraded cos it depended on libmpd0 from unstable, once I forced that in it upgraded and runs fine again :-)
